Delhi -
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Assembly elections in five Indian states - Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa.
According to reports, the BJP is returning to power in Uttar Pradesh (UP), Uttarakhand and Manipur while the Aam Aadmi Party has won a resounding victory in Punjab. The BJP is ahead in Goa.
The Election Commission will announce the results later. However, according to the trends that have emerged during the counting of votes so far, the BJP is getting 274 seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly. 202 seats are needed to form a government.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Congress returned to power for the second time in 1985. Since then, no political party has been in a position to form a government again. The BJP is the first party to return to power since 1985.
In Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath is once again the Chief Minister
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is said to be ahead of Gorakhpur by a considerable margin of votes. Earlier, speculations were rife about his defeat.
Vigi Adityanath is still 49 years old and is the most talked about topic among the Chief Ministers of the state. He is popular among pro-Hindutva circles after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Given the identity and political ambitions of a hardline Hindu leader, political observers believe he has his eye on the PM.
According to reports, it is now clear that Yogi Adityanath is going to take over the Chief Minister's post again.
In the last elections, the BJP-led coalition in Uttar Pradesh, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), won 325 seats, while the Samajwadi Party won 47 seats.
The Samajwadi Party, which slammed the BJP during the election campaign, has increased its seats compared to 2017, but unexpectedly failed to form a government. It has a lead of 124 seats. The Congress is leading with four seats and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) seems to be getting five seats.
According to the trends so far, Asaduddin Owaisi's party Majlis-e-Ittehad-e-Muslimeen is unlikely to get a single seat from Hyderabad.
"The issues raised by the BJP worked."
Commenting on the UP election results, analyst Vivek Shukla said that during the election campaign, it seemed that the BJP was facing difficulties but now it seems that the Samajwadi Party voter was speaking openly and BJP JP voters were silent.
He told VOA that the government provided wheat, rice, flour, oil and salt to the poor during the Karuna epidemic. This had an effect and the poor felt that the government had provided them with two meals a day, so they voted for the BJP.
According to Vivek Shukla, it seems that the issues raised by the BJP have worked. The construction of Ram Temple and inauguration of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor has also had a tacit effect.
He further said that the issues of stray cattle, inflation and employment were discussed but it seems that the people decided to give another chance to the yogi. Apart from this, the issue of Hindutva has also played a role in the victory of BJP.
Wave of change in Punjab, possibility of Aam Aadmi Party government
The wave of change that was seen during the election campaign in Punjab has also changed in the election result and Aam Aadmi Party is going to form the government there.
The Aam Aadmi Party is winning 91 seats in the state's 117-member assembly, while the ruling Congress is leading in just 17 seats. The Shiromani Akali Dal is getting six seats while the BJP is getting two seats.
The farmers of Punjab had participated in the farmers 'movement in large numbers and two farmers' organizations had also contested the elections. However, the people have rejected these organizations including the Congress and the BJP.
Thus the Aam Aadmi Party became the first party to come to power in two states at the age of 10. It has also made its presence felt in Goa.
In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party had fielded candidates for 112 seats in the 2017 elections while it had won 20 seats at that time. In 2017, the Congress won and Captain Amrinder Singh was made the Chief Minister.
A few months before the recent elections, due to an internal dispute in the Congress, Amrinder Singh was removed and Charan Jait Singh Channi was made the Chief Minister.
The Congress had fielded Charan Jait Singh Channi as the Chief Minister of the Dalit community, but he had little time to work and he did not have much popularity.
"People wanted change"
Observers believe that the people wanted change in the state. The Aam Aadmi Party had fielded MP Bhagwant Singh Mann as its chief ministerial candidate, which was accepted by the people.
It is believed that the people of Punjab like the Aam Aadmi Party's model of governing Delhi, so they have decided to give it a chance. The Aam Aadmi Party has also made several welfare announcements.
The Aam Aadmi Party office in Chandigarh has a festive atmosphere and Delhi Chief Minister and party chief Arvind Kejriwal will also arrive here.
In Punjab, Congress president Navjot Singh Sadhu has said in a statement on social media that the voice of the people is the voice of God.
He said that he accepted the decision of the people with a smile and congratulated the Aam Aadmi Party
